I became a developer because I wanted to build a website for my portfolio along the line; it changed and became something bigger.
Everyone has their grand stories of starting something.
Here is mine.
I have always enjoyed writing and sharing information about music commentary, song reviews, technology, and engineering. I used my social media accounts to share ideas as they are my interest.
From time to time, I get encouraged by friends& acquaintances to make it serious. I smudged it often.
Then, the epiphany came to try it out...
I reached out to some developers, and their prices were past what I had budgeted for them. Being in the field now, I have an understanding of their reasons. Quality can be expensive.
On campus, I heard of a two-week boot camp organized by Google Developer Students Clubs(GDSC) on different tracks in tech. Including guidance on how to follow through.
You only need your system and time as the internet was available, and I registered. I opted for web development but was not sure about the particular part (frontend or backend ) to focus on at the start. We got enlightened on the importance of being in a community, particularly a tech community, and introduced to Github. We got split into our selected tracks. When the track training started, it was mind-blowing. From learning about HTML, and CSS. I got invested, and it changed everything.
It came my turn to practice, and I was not making progress as I wanted to. It can be discouraging. I kept practicing, and it became exciting, and enjoyed it.
We began learning about Javascript, and it intrigued me. One of the facilitators advised every participant to select the track of web development they were interested in advancing and research to find their calling. I read about back-end development. I love how it fuels my curiosity about the web and what it does. I decided to make it my main track focus. Although the training was got cut, it changed my life.
Now, being a developer is a bigger picture.
The experience has been impactful, challenging, and a journey. It is about solving problems and making lives easy for people using technology. I want to build something that benefits individuals and communities no matter how small; it should make their lives easier. That's the goal. Creating something from nothing is exciting. What's your story?
